NO ONE could ever accuse Richard Herring of not tackling big ideas.
While some comedians prefer to concentrate on the banalities of life, he has used recent tours to tackle religion (Christ on a Bike), politics (Hitler Moustache) and, er, male genitalia (Talking Cock).
Now he has romance in mind as he takes to the road with new show What is Love Anyway?
Herring is setting out to define and destroy love before it destroys him – no mean feat.
Along the way he promises to answer questions such as whether love is just a chemical reaction in our brains by which our body selects potential sexual partners, or is it a magical force which guides us unerringly to our soul mate, oddly usually waiting until we’re slightly inebriated at a nightclub to do so? And could a romantic gesture involving Ferrero Rocher chocolates get so out of control as to destroy the economic infrastructure of the United Kingdom?
You may remember Herring as one half of cult comedy duo Lee and Herring. More recently he has starred in award-winning podcast As It Occurs to Me, and hosted his own show on BBC Radio 4, Richard Herring’s Objective.
He’ll be performing What is Love Anyway? at the Junction on Friday, February 10. Tickets are £15 and the show starts at 8pm. Call 01223 511511 or visit www.junction.co.uk for more information or to book.
