LOCAL hero Nick Mulvey (pictured left) tops an all-star bill coming to the Junction next month.
You may know Mulvey as one fourth of Cambridge-based Mercury Prize nominees Portico Quartet. Playing the Hang - a little-known percussion instrument which resembles a flying saucer - he and his band-mates went from busking on the South Bank of the Thames to touring the world in the space of a few years.
Though their album, Knee Deep in the North Sea, was pipped to the Mercury Prize by Elbow’s The Seldom Seen Kid in 2008, Portico Quartet continued to enjoy success, embarking on an extensive tour and recording a second LP, Isla.
Now Mulvey has decided to pursue a solo project, returning to his first musical love, the guitar.
Appearing alongside Nick will be indie-classical sensation Ana Silvera whose EP, The Aviery, came out earlier this month, and up-and-coming singer/songwriter Gil Karpas.
The gig takes place at the Junction2 on Thursday, February 2, starting at 8pm. Tickets are £12, call 01223 511511 or visit www.junction.co.uk for further information or to book.
