George’s phone stays quiet during transfer window
"There’s a massive difference between being interested and making an offer and as yet there have been no bids whatsoever"
JEZ GEORGE says there have been no bids yet for his young Cambridge United stars in the January transfer window.
United’s good form this season has seen scouts from bigger clubs flocking to the R Costings Abbey Stadium.
But ahead of Saturday’s trip to AFC Telford, manager George said the club hasn’t received any offers for the likes of midfielder Luke Berry or winger Harrison Dunk.
George said: “Clubs monitor players all the time, and we’re aware there’s interest in one or two of our players.
“But there’s a massive difference between being interested and making an offer and as yet there have been no bids whatsoever.”
The manager is continuing his own efforts to bring in new blood, but doesn’t expect to make any signings before the match at the New Bucks Head.
“We’re speaking to clubs and agents all the time,” he said. “We want to push some situations forward but sometimes things happen which are out of your control.”
The U’s will host Guisley AFC in the FA Trophy third round having seen off Telford 4-1 on Saturday.
George said: “We can’t complain about the draw really because we’ve avoided a few of the harder ties. We’ll be respectful of the opposition but at this stage all we can ask for is to be at home in the next round.”
United’s match against Newport, scheduled for next Tuesday, January 24, has been postponed due to County having an FA Trophy second round replay with Worksop that day. A new date will be announced in due course.
