Stadelmann appeared to aim an obscene gesture at the visiting fans after the final whistle of Saturday’s match at the Glassworld Stadium, which Histon won 4-3.

But Livermore said he understood his reaction after he was subjected to abuse by fans throughout the match, and had a ball thrown at his head.

“I’m not condoning what Jorg did, he shouldn’t have reacted like that,” said Livermore. “But after the abuse he received I can understand why he did, I’m very disappointed in the fan because his behaviour wasn’t acceptable either, in my opinion.

“I’ll always back my players and I think the incident has been blown out of proportion.”
