Director of rugby Crooks was delighted with the way his team performed as they beat Tynedale 23-21 at Volac Park on Saturday, but he will have to make changes to that winning formula on Saturday with Sam Dimmick, Bryn Jenkins and Toby Berridge all struggling with knocks.

“We made a step forward last weekend and now what we need from the boys is consistency,” said Crooks. “At Rosslyn Park the previous week it had been a game of two halves. We didn’t dwell on that too much, and against Tynedale we put it all together and managed the game really well. Unfortunately we’ve picked up a few bumps and bruises at just the wrong time.”

Under normal circumstances Crooks would call upon members of the club’s young Wanderers side to make up the numbers in the first XV, but several of them will be involved with the Eastern Counties under-20 squad which takes on Essex on Sunday.

“Some of the boys might end up playing two games in a weekend,” warned Crooks. “It’s not ideal but they’ll be ok as long we manage the situation properly.”
