Cambridge City 4 - 0 Bashley
CRAIG Hammond’s hat-trick helped Cambridge City to a fifth successive victory as they easily brushed aside Bashley at Milton Road.
Hammond opened the scoring with a penalty after ten minutes following a foul on Lee Clift, and netted his second nine minutes later after latching on to a Danny Kelly pass.
In between times David Prada saw a shot hit the post, and Dave Theobold also went close with a header, but it wasn’t long before Hammond completed his hat-trick. The striker found the net with an angled shot to notch his 17th goal of the season.
And when Jamie Gould side-footed home a Hammond cross in the 32nd minute, it looked as City might notch double figures.
But they eased off in the second period, and Bashley missed a chance to pull one back when Mark Gamble’s effort hit the post.
The win lifts City to third in the table, four points behind leaders Brackley. They face Chippenham Town on Saturday. The only downside was an injury to Gould, who had to be withdrawn at half-time and replaced by Jean-Phillipe Yamfam.
