GOLDIE SAYERS eased into the final of the Javelin at the Athletics World Championships earlier today.

Cambridge-based athlete Sayers qualified for the final with a throw of 62.19 metres at the Championships, being held in Daegu, South Korea.

She said: “It’s nice to get the job done. The first round was not quite so good, but it’s good to be in the final.

“The finals are all in the evening so it’s not quite so bad for the heat. I was pleased to throw in the first group today as I wouldn’t want to be throwing in the midday sun here.”

The 29-year-old was fourth best behind German pair Christina Obergföll and Kathrina Molitor, and Russia’s Maria Abakumova, and will have to achieve a greater distance than one of the trio if she is to collect a medal in the final tomorrow (Friday).
