Former skipper takes the helm
GLEN REMNANT has been confirmed as Cambridge Rugby Club’s manager for the rest of the season.
The New Zealander succeeds Bob Crooks, who was sacked last week as the Blood and Sand announced they would no longer be paying their playing staff. He will take up the position after he returns from holiday.
Remnant, a former Cambridge captain, was at Volac Park on Saturday to witness Cambridge secure a 35-27 win over Coventry.
Senior players Gareth McComb and Danny Hunter took charge of the team, and McComb was one of three first half try-scorers as Cambridge took charge. Will Lawson and Ben Cooper also touched down, with Elliot Bale adding three conversions.
Elliot Read kept Coventry in touch with a penalty and a drop goal, and after half-time he scored a converted try to make the score 21-13. Not to be out-done, Bale touched down and kicked the conversion to extend Cambridge’s advantage once more.
Coventry fought back through a James Whybrow try, then a converted penalty try move them to within a point of their hosts. But a late penalty try for Cambridge ensured they secured an emotional win to end a turbulant week.
