Roberts named in Fairclough’s squad
CAMBRIDGE United defender Kevin Roberts’ fine recent form has been rewarded with an England C call-up.
Roberts, 22, has been named in Paul Fairclough’s squad for the International Challenge Trophy match against Italy on Wednesday, February 28 at Fleetwood’s Highbury Stadium.
The former Chester man has been one of United’s stand-out performers this term, and signed a new two-year-contract with the club last week.
At the time manager Jez George said Roberts epitomises the philosophy the club wants to create.
George said: “He gives his maximum in everything he does, always wants to improve and is a fantastic character to have in the squad.
“Robbo has been unbelievably consistent in the last 12 months. He is developing as a player all the time, especially going forward, and we think there is still more to come from him in the future.”
Roberts becomes the second U’s player to be called up this season, following in the footsteps of Rory McAuley who was a member of the squad that flew out to Gibraltar in November.
