CAMBRIDGE Dive Team sensation Daniel Goodfellow has returned from the British Gas National Cup with an astonishing eight medals.
The 15-year-old, who was recently named in the elite Great Britain development squad, competed in both the junior and senior competitions, and picked up medals in the one metre springboard, ten metre platform, and synchronised diving contest.
Perhaps his most impressive performance came in the senior synchronised event, where he and partner Sam Thornton secured the silver medal, beating many experienced and older divers for a place on the podium.
Coach Marc Holdsworth said: “It was his first real experience of a Senior meet. There were a few wobbles here and there but it was good to show what he can do in front of the British Diving bosses”
Goodfellow’s Cambridge team-mate Lucy Cliff won junior British and English bronze medals at the competition, in Southend, for her impressive platform dives and made it into the final of the senior event finishing ninth.
There was also success for Cambridge University student Stacie Powell, who has been dogged by injuries in recent months. Powell, an astro-physics student who represents Southampton Diving, won gold on the 10 metre platform with a score of 368.2.
