A COLLEGE’S commitment to Olympic values has earned it a place in the London 2012 Get Set Network.
Cambridge Regional College (CRC) has received a plaque to mark the way it has used the Games to promote values such as inspiration, courage and equality.
Christine Sprowell, FE sports co-ordinator, said: “This is the biggest show on earth and we want to use it as an opportunity to promote the benefits of lifelong participation in sport and encourage everyone to make the right choices in terms of healthy lifestyles.
“We are using the power of the Games to build on our successful community links to encourage greater participation and retention in sport for local people of all ages, abilities and communities.”
More than 200 CRC students have volunteered at local sports events and festivals in recent months, while the college also hosts the new wheelchair basketball Change4Life Club, Hotshot Wheelies. The club, featured in Cambridge First last year, encourages students to participate and help out at training and matches.
Principal Anne Constantine was “delighted” to be part of the network.
She said: “London 2012 is inspiring young people to get involved and make a difference. Here at CRC we are committed to the values of the Olympics and our students are working to encourage others to get involved in sport.”
