CAMBRIDGE and Coleridge still have the edge in Frostbite League after coming out on top in the fourth round of the series at Whitemoor Prison, March.
The course, around the nature reserve adjoining the prison, proved to be fast and flat, and C&C faced competition from Nene Valley Harriers, who sent a strong team in the senior men’s category, taking four of the top six places. However Sullivan Smith was second in 26min 14 sec, eight seconds behind race winner Aaron Scott.
The C&C women fared particularly well, with Katie Sherwood finishing as the third fastest woman in 31:50. The endeavours of Sherwood and her team-mates helped C&C pick up 16 league points, which kept them clear of Hunts AC at the top of the standings.
C&C runners dominated in the junior competition, and Tim Cobden came in first in a time of 7:37. With team-mates Kieran Wood, Dan Cade and Charlotte Murphy also claiming top-six finishes, C&C scored 14 league points and top the table ahead of Werrington.
The Frostbite League, which comprises six races run over varying terrains, resumes on February 5 with a race at Bourne Woods. Two rounds remain in the series.
