AS temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 2°C this weekend, drivers are being urged to check their vehicles are roadworthy.

With freezing temperatures and possibly snow fall, motorists are being reminded to ensure their vehicles are safe before setting out.

Casualty reduction officer for Cambridgeshire Police PC Steve Gedny said: “The snow and ice on the roads combine to make tricky driving conditions and mean it is even more important to prepare your vehicle before setting off on your journey.

“If the weather is severe please consider do you need to make the journey. If it is essential make sure you allow plenty of time.

“Windows will be iced-up and they can quickly become misty when the heater takes effect.

“I would urge people to take time to make sure their windows are fully de-iced and clear before setting off.

“It is also important to ensure your lights and number plates are free from snow and ice and clearly visible.”

PC Gedny added: “It is vital that drivers check that their tyres are in good condition.

“Taking a few minutes to clear off ice and snow from your car can help prevent a collision.”
