MP for South Cambridgeshire, Andrew Lansley, has called for “short-sighted” plans for a windfarm at Heydon, near Duxford, to be abandoned “immediately”.
Mr Lansley wrote to Volkswind UK Ltd earlier this week calling for the proposals to be abandoned citing his opposition to them is based on the widespread dislike of the plans among his constituents, and a possible adverse effect on the Imperial War Museum air shows at Duxford.
Mr Lansley said: “I have been following the developments at Heydon very closely. While I am not opposed to wind farms where they are built in an efficient and responsible manner, I am deeply opposed to these plans for Heydon.
“In my opinion, the proposed location is extremely inefficient for the purposes of wind-generation. More than that, it is deeply undesirable to those residents not just in Heydon, but in all the surrounding villages.
“Just as significantly, the proposed wind farm would, I believe, have a disastrous impact on the Duxford air shows. Duxford, a precious piece of our local and national heritage, hosts most air shows than anywhere else in Europe, and is widely considered to be one of the world’s premier air show venues.
“Whichever way one looks at it, the proposed wind farm would fall within the six mile airspace restrictions currently required for air shows at Duxford, raising serious questions about the future of any air shows there in the future.”

Full marks to MP Andrew Lansley for his opposition to the proposed wind farm at Heydon.. The site is not is an area likely to generate enough wind to be cost effective anyway, the same as the recently shelved Linton site, and will have a very detrimental effect on all the villages in the surrounding area. Its impact on the valuable Duxford war museum and its air shows could be catastrophic, very valuable visitors to our area. will be lost. I urge every one concerned to fight hard, these large wind farm ideas can be defeated if there is enough of an outcry.
