A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said it was called to the railway line at Bannold Road in Waterbeach following a report of a body on the line.

He said: “Officers from BTP and Cambridgeshire Police attended the incident which was reported at 6.40am and discovered the body of a man.

“Paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service also attended but the man, believed to be 46-years-old and from the local area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The train involved was the 06:18 Cambridge to Kings Lynn service.

Lines were handed back to Network Rail at 7.57am.
