The armed robbery took place just before 6pm yesterday at the Spar shop in Barnwell Road, Cambridge.

A man entered the shop carrying a plastic bag, from which he pulled the machete and walked behind the counter.

He was challenged by a female member of staff but he told her not to get in his way.

The robber, whose face was partially covered, pulled three cash trays from the tills, put them into a post bag that was behind the counter and made off.

He ran to the rear of the shop where a small, black car was waiting to pick him up.

The robber was described as being in his mid 20s, about 5’11”, with olive skin, a dark complexion and blue eyes. He was wearing a black Adidas top with a red brand logo and red pull cords, with the hood up.

The getaway driver was a black man.

There were two members of staff in the shop at the time, both female, and some members of the public. No one was injured.

DC Ben Martin said: “A significant amount of cash was stolen in this robbery and the members of staff were upset and shaken by what happened.

“I am appealing for anyone who was in the area and maybe saw the men involved or remembers seeing the small black car to get in touch. Any information could be very important to this investigation.”

Anyone with information should contact DC Martin on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
