A CAMBRIDGE cycle courier company can now transport up to a quarter of a tonne of cargo across the city following the delivery of three new unmissable trikes.
Fuelled only by pedal power, the courier company Outspoken Delivery has expanded its fleet of delivery cycles in order to transport larger cargo.
In a trial run last month the first of the three new Maximus trikes - which Cambridge residents and tourists will now see weaving their way through the city centre - was used to transport 160 boxes of Chelsea buns from Fitzbillies in Trumpington Street to the Post Office in St Andrews Street to fine tune the cycles for ‘optimum performance’.
Rob King, founder of Outspoken Delivery, said the courier bike service has proved to be a great success in parts of Cambridge city centre not accessible for deliveries by car or van between 10am and 4pm.
And the company is making plans for delivery companies to drop their parcels at its depot off Newmarket Road with the trikes used for a ‘final mile’ delivery service.
He said: “The introduction of these high capacity trikes will enable us to expand the business into next day delivery.”
Outspoken Delivery launched in 2005 with just a single two-wheeled bike capable of delivery up to 60kg parcels in the city centre and has since expanded to five two-wheeled bikes and three trikes.

Great! As another Cambridge business that transports by bike we are thrilled to see more of this eco friendly mode of transport. Every week we take our delicate vintage and retro homewares to the market in our bike trailers - see them here http:www.retrovert.co.uk1post201112our-new-mode-of-transport.html
