The Zebra, Maids Causeway, closed last year

CAMBRIDGE pub The Zebra will be turned into 16 student flats, Cambridge First understands.

The pub in Maids Causeway, which closed in July last year, was sold to a “small development company” at the end of the year and now looks set for redevelopment.

It is not known who the developers are behind the plans but a pre-application query made to Cambridge City Council shows the pub is destined to become 16 student flats with communal facilities.

Cllr Colin Rosentiel, who represents Market ward, said: “There is grave concern about the rapid loss of pubs in Cambridge and any proposal would be consider with scrutiny.”

He added that no proposal could be considered until an application had been made.

The developers did not respond to a request for comment.
