PATIENTS who have been requested to have a blood test by their GP will be able to have a sample taken at Cambridge’s Sainsbury’s store in Coldhams Lane from Monday.

Implemented for convenience so that a patient does not have to try and get another GP appointment to have the simple test, phlebotomists from Addenbrooke’s Hospital are offering blood tests in a private consultation room at the busy store.

The new service is available from 7.30am to 10.30am and from 4.30pm to 7.30pm Monday to Friday and no appointment is needed.

Tracey Murray, clinical service manager at Addenbrooke’s, said: “We are delighted to join forces with Sainsbury’s in this exciting new venture. “This initiative reflects Addenbrooke’s aim to achieve innovative solutions for delivering effective and efficient clinical services within the community environment.

“This service will not only provide a convenient and accessible phlebotomy service but be a valuable resource to aid with patients’ care and treatment.”

David Gilder, Sainsbury’s professional services manager, said: “Customers increasingly tell us that they want Sainsbury’s to work with local experts to provide healthcare services so we are delighted to announce this partnership with Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

“We know from feedback that patients really value the ease and convenience of having facilities like this in store and we are sure it will be very popular with the customers at Coldhams Lane.”
