Cambridge First reporters Laura Jean Morris and Hugh Morris ask the people of Cambridge what they think. Pictures to the right by Paul Green.

Sam Edwards, 24, from Eversdon, works at Catherine Jones jewellery in Cambridge. He said: “I don’t know if it would be more of an asset as a road. It would have made more sense for it to be a road.

“Though, I haven’t ever seen anything like it before but it’s a bit mundane to be exciting. It would have been better to have something dull but that worked.”

Pat Worthington, 61, of Haverhill, knows it as the ‘mis-guided bus’. She said: “I have heard from my friends that they don’t think it will be a good thing. It won’t be very economic because of the costs of the delays.

“But it’s hard to say how it work out in the long run. I won’t be using it though.”

Sally Scoffield, 35, of Mill Road, is the owner of The Beaderie.

“I imagine it will take a lot of promotion to get people to use it after its reputation,” she said, “I probably won’t use it because I live in Cambridge but I might just give it go because people have harped on about it enough.”

“It will be a bit of novelty for people. Once it’s up and running we’ll see if it’s going to work.”

Matthew Soar, 51, Cambridge, said: “In the long run they should have built a railway. It’s a waste of money and people use buses anyway.”

Margaret Wallman, 57, Sutton Close, Milton, said; “It’s not going to benefit us as it doesn’t go to Milton, and I don;t think there is even a bus stop on Milton Road. I guess it might be used by people wanting to go to Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

“I don’t think it will help congestion on the A14 either as it only takes 20 minutes less and people will still want to use their cars.”

Teresa Wallman, 36, Sutton Close, Milton, said: “I don;t think it will be an asset in the long run, to be honest. I think its a waste of time.

“I think they would have been better off subsidising already existing buses and ensured that they went out to the villages rather than spedning all that money on something that will only benefit one area of the city.”

Sam Weekes, 26, Gadwall Way, Soham, said: “I think, eventually, it probably will be an asset. I probably won’t use it though as it doesn’t go to where I need it to.”

Daniel Harris, 28, Great Dunmow, said: “I think it will be an asset and I think I will use it. I also think it will reduce traffic on the A14 too- anything that can be done to help out on the A14 has to be good
