New Zealand has opened its doors to Cambridge firm SureFlap – the company behind the first multi-format microchip cat flap.
It has set up a new company and a regional webshop to meet the demand for its product from Kiwi cat lovers.
One of its first retailers is Animates – New Zealand’s leading pet store with shops throughout the country.
“People were finding SureFlap on the internet and telling us about it,” said products manager Darron Lindsay. “We have had huge demand for the product and it is selling well.
“Our customers appreciate that SureFlap only lets your cat in and no others. This is a great idea and something we all want.”
SureFlap, based in Dry Drayton, monitors visitors to its UK website and noticed that increasing numbers of orders were coming from New Zealand, so marketing manager Judith Bank said the company made it a priority.
“We decided to set up a presence in New Zealand as there was obviously such a high number of cat enthusiasts there,” she said.
SureFlap uses the cat’s own microchip as a personal door key – it will only open for cats whose identity is stored in it.
