Cambridge location solutions company Ubisense has forged an agreement with BMW that will extend the deployment of its technology across the vehicle manufacturer’s global production facilities.
Partnering with software company IBS, Ubisense will roll out the real-time location identification system at three additional BMW assembly lines in Europe, Asia and the US.
The solution – developed specifically for BMW – combines ultra-wideband radio tags and sensors with advanced quality management and traceability software.
The technology tracks individual vehicles, determining the identity and location of each car in the assembly facility and – based on the proximity of the vehicles to both fixed and mobile equipment such as tools and scanners – programmes and controls the devices.
Ubisense chief executive Richard Green said: “Extending our agreement with BMW via IBS is a major endorsement of the Ubisense solution, demonstrating the quality improvements as well as time and cost savings it can deliver.
“Working with IBS, we are delighted to have forged a long-term partnership with BMW and look forward to working with the company to drive forward new efficiencies at its global manufacturing sites.”
